Paseo del Prado

The Paseo del Prado is one of the most emblematic places in Madrid. Linked to the Villa since time immemorial by its particular orography and the presence of water, the eastern boundary was settled from the sixteenth century. The area become in the seventeenth century the seat of the Buen Retiro Palace. Its definitive transformation, promoted by King Carlos III from 1767, culminated with the opening of the Museo del Prado in 1819.
